ABOUT MELISSA:
Dr. Melissa M. Powers, a graduate of the University of Florida and Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions, has a passion for helping patients live pain-free. With over a decade of experience, Melissa continues to be fascinated by the complexity of the musculoskeletal system and the challenge of treating various orthopedic conditions.
While completing her doctorate, she went on to finish out a year-long internship in manual therapy, receiving specialized training and mentorship in joint mobilization/manipulative treatment techniques for both spine and extremities. Her special interests lie in neck and back pain, lumbopelvic mechanical malalignments, SIJ dysfunction, femoral acetabular impingement, and acetabular labral tears as well as sport-specific injuries.
Melissa finds great joy in achieving superior results with patients dealing with chronic pain or movement dysfunction, who perhaps have been unsuccessful in other PT clinics. She believes the approach to therapy here at Embody PT is unique in the current healthcare environment, seeking to work closely with patients, evaluating each injury as it relates to the entire body and the whole person.
With over 20yrs of experience as a ballet dancer and 20+ yrs as a long-distance road/trail runner, Melissa enjoys working with the performing arts community and endurance athletes. Outside of her physical therapy practice, she enjoys running marathons, cycling, practicing yoga, and hiking with her amazing husband, son, and hounds!
